Komen Suncoast Polk Race for the Cure

Register now and join the excitement in 2012 as Polk County welcomes the first annual Komen Florida Suncoast Polk Race for the Cure® in Lakeland. Tiger Stadium, located in the heart of Polk County, will open its doors to host this spectacular event. Tiger Stadium, also known as Joker Marchant Stadium is the spring training home to the Detroit Tigers. More than 5,000 participants are expected to celebrate the fight against breast cancer at the Komen Florida Suncoast Polk Race for the Cure®, where there will be activities and events to interest all age groups. Nationally, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, with nearly 2 million participants each year. The Komen Florida Suncoast Polk Race for the Cure offers a 10K and 5K competitive run, a 5K walk/run, and 1 mile fun run. The Affiliate’s fundraising goal for this first annual Race is $375,000. Start forming your teams and getting ready for the first annual Race for the Cure in Polk County.

The Komen Race for the Cure raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. The first Race was held in Dallas in 1983 and 800 women participated. Today, there are more than 133 Komen Race for the Cure events worldwide.
