Funding Priorities

Funding Priorities

A minimum of 25 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race supports the national Komen for the Cure Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards, and educational and scientific conferences around the world.

Up to 75 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race stays in our Service Area to fund breast cancer screening, breast health education, and breast cancer treatment and navigation projects.

Statement of need for the 2012-2013 Grant Funding cycle:

  • Assure access to the entire continuum of care (screening, diagnosis, treatment, & follow-up care) for uninsured and underinsured women in each county in the Service Area.
  • Increase regular screenings in target zip codes or other areas with a rate of 5% or higher late stage diagnosis.
  • Use evidenced-based, culturally competent education methods designed to increase mammography utilization among African American populations in the target zip codes.

Community Profile

The Community Profile is a community needs assessment that provides the basis for Affiliate grant-making and activities. The Community Profile is updated every two years to stay current and uses a variety of sources to determine the breast health needs in our Service Area. By taking a comprehensive, evidenced-based look at what is happening in our Service Area, we can ensure that the funds we raise are going towards programs that meet the needs of our community.
